For the fourth consecutive year, this weekend, Dee Reads will be at the Texas Book Festival in Austin.  My brother, Jay, and I will be on hand for all the 30th Anniversary activities.  Some three hundred authors will join hundreds of readers for a unique and fun-filled weekend.  Here's a look at the busy schedule.

    The Texas Book Festival is always on the top of my list for fun, excitement, and just a good time. What better way to get the inside scoop on the latest books, meet the authors, and exchange ideas and share your reading experiences. If you have never been, I would encourage you to pack up the car and head to Austin for the weekend.

Advance Readers

  Advance Reader Galleys I'm always on the hunt for new authors, books, or topics I've never read much about.  The trouble is buying books is EXPENSIVE! To borrow books from your local library is oftentimes an exercise in patience and I'm no Job.  Somehow, maybe social media or an alignment of the planets, I learned there are a few sites through which you are able to request advance reader copies of upcoming book releases.  For instance, Voracious Readers Only , Book Sirens , Net Galley, and more. I've reviewed for all three at one time or another, but I am most loyal to Net Galley .   Good fortune put me together with Net Galley early in 2020.  To date I have reviewed more than 250 advance reader galleys provided by publishers through Net Galley. There is no remuneration for, nor pressure to provide a certain rating. The only thing asked of Net Galley reviewers is that they try to read and review books prior to the publication date.  On...

Profile - Kimberly Darneille, Adult Programming Librarian

Never let it be said I don't follow through.  As promised, this is the first blog with new, but still book-related content.  Jumping off the new year, I contacted and was graciously granted an interview with Kimberly Darneille, the adult programming librarian at my library, Harris County Public Library, Atascocita Branch .  To say Kimberly is a librarian seems far too simple and narrow a description, she's much more.  In her own words, her job encompasses,  "helping people in so many different ways, whether it's guiding someone to the perfect book, teaching a new skill, or solving a tricky question, every interaction feels like an opportunity to make a difference."  Contrary to what is thought of as the typical route (a Master's Degree in library science) to becoming a librarian, Kimberly took a different path.
